“Disconnected Space” mirrors the technique used in “The Space We Share.” Through this piece, I sought to explore the feeling of isolation even amidst the joy and warmth of childhood. The protruding, playful children symbolize belonging and the carefree innocence often associated with youth, depicted with bright contrasts to capture society’s attention. Meanwhile, a recessed silicone mold of an excluded boy quietly embodies emotional isolation—reflecting how loneliness can affect us, even at a young age. The intaglio effect creates a shadowed distance between the boy and his peers, illustrating how his quiet struggles go unseen. By juxtaposing these figures, I wanted to highlight a deeper truth about our shared spaces: how easily we overlook the inner struggles of others when our own lives feel full.
