Growing up, my family would often point out monarch butterflies on our walks, captivated by their delicate wings and brilliant colors. “Fading Flight” reflects my lament over the disappearance of these beautiful creatures and the precious biodiversity we risk losing. This installation illustrates the toll that urbanization and climate change take on Earth’s natural beauty, symbolized by hand-painted butterflies that gradually lose their color, size, and vibrancy as they approach the cityscape. The butterflies’ fading hues mirror the reduction in biodiversity, each shade dimming to emphasize the unique life forms slipping away as we reshape our world. I wanted to capture the sorrow of this loss, a reminder of nature’s fragile gifts disappearing when we let human expansion overwhelm it. Through the muted transition of colors, this piece serves as a call to preserve the beauty around us before it becomes just a memory.
